Ohio Needs to SAVE the BLOCK GRANT!

The Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (PHHSBG) is a vital source of funding for the Ohio Department of Health that allows Ohio to address its most critical public health needs while providing support for essential community level work.  The block grant has been zeroed out in the President’s FY 2012 budget.

OPHA can help Save the Block Grant by downloading the materials provided here, learning more about the Block Grant and then contacting policy makers and legislators asking for their support of this critical funding source that protects and promotes public health in Ohio.

Attached you will find the necessary materials to help you in your block grant advocacy efforts.  These include:

-2 sample letters (one focusing on how the block grant funds are used to combat prescription drug abuse and the other on how the Ohio Department of Health utilizes the PHHSBG to address chronic disease and obesity prevention)
-3 block grant fact sheets
-a legislative contact information sheet with important information on how to contact your federal legislators
-block grant talking points

Recently Added - 4 fact sheets highlighting the important work of the 'Creating Healthy Communities Program" (which is entirely funded by the PHHSBG)

OPHA is pleased to be a strong supporter of the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant and we encourage you to do likewise!
